A sermon for Advent 1, 2022

 The following sermon was preached at St. Olaf on Sunday November 27, 2022 Primary preaching texts were Isaiah 2:1-5 and Matthew 24:36-44 The hymn referenced at the end is entitled "Each Winter as the Year Grows Older", found in the hymnal Evangelical Lutheran Worship (#252) +++ Advent is here!   My favorite season of the year and there is no second place.   I’ve always appreciated the opportunity to sit back and reflect on the year, to reflect on the immense blessings from God and also to give thanks for the life and ministry Jesus lived and died, which is the ultimate end of Advent.   And I don’t know about you, but my favorite thing to do during Advent is sit in my living room with all the lights off except for the Christmas tree, and be.   I try to sit and breath intentionally, to not get ahead of myself too much, but to be present.   When I was a little kid, I would spend almost every evening during December laying under the Christmas tree look...
